Coinbase Lets AI Agents Trade Crypto on Your Behalf
Coinbase has launched "Coinbase for Agents," a platform that lets AI assistants like ChatGPT and Claude connect directly to a user's account and trade on their behalf, CoinDesk reports.
In plain terms: instead of opening the app and clicking "buy" yourself, you give an AI agent permission to act on plain-language instructions — "buy $100 of ETH if the price drops below X." The agent reads market data, prepares orders, and executes trades on its own, CNBC explains. At launch, agents can trade spot and derivatives markets, with equities and prediction markets planned later.
Amazon Web Services, partnering with Coinbase and Stripe, unveiled a similar tool — Bedrock AgentCore Payments — that lets AI agents pay for access to services and data on their own, MEXC notes.
What this actually means: the line between "a human trades" and "a bot trades on fixed rules" is blurring — there's now a third option, where AI makes real-time decisions, but still strictly within the permissions you personally granted it.
