POSCO International, South Korea's largest trading company by revenue, is testing a move of trade receivables onto blockchain with LG CNS — receivables being money owed to the company after goods ship but before payment arrives. The pilot uses real commercial invoices between POSCO's overseas units and their counterparties, not simulated transactions, CoinDesk reports.

  • The platform chosen is Injective, a Layer-1 blockchain purpose-built for financial applications.
  • The goal is a single, transferable onchain record for each receivable that carries compliance rules, ownership history, and settlement terms, cutting reconciliation time for buyers, sellers, and banks.
  • LG CNS has already led key phases of the Bank of Korea's wholesale CBDC trials and built tokenized deposit platforms for seven of the country's major banks.
What makes this PoC meaningful is that it confirmed the applicability of AI and blockchain technologies using real trade data.

After the pilot wraps up, POSCO plans to move the initiative into production before the end of 2026. The tokenized real-world asset market is currently valued at roughly $35 billion, with potential to grow to $5.5 trillion by 2030, CryptoBriefing notes. South Korea is quickly adding to its list of such projects — we recently covered how the country's largest bank is launching JPMorgan's Kinexys blockchain for cross-border payments.
