Top 10 altcoins: Cosmos jumps 9% as extreme fear grips the market
While bitcoin recovers toward $63,700 after the Coldcard hardware wallet exploit and selling pressure from Strategy, the picture among the top 10 altcoins is mixed: most are up modestly over 24 hours, but one token stands out sharply from the pack.
The best 24-hour mover is Cosmos (ATOM), up nearly 9% — one of the strongest moves of the day across the entire top 10. Cardano (ADA), meanwhile, hit a one-month high, climbing to $0.195 — its highest level since July 4, with the token's market cap gaining 24% over the week. CoinDesk called ADA "one of the few clean standouts in an otherwise choppy altcoin market."
- Ethereum — around $1,866 (+1.5% in 24 hours)
- XRP — around $1.07 (+1% in 24 hours)
- Solana — around $73.6 (+1.7% in 24 hours)
- BNB — around $584 (-1.2% in 24 hours)
- Cardano — $0.195, highest since July 4, market cap up 24% on the week
- Cosmos — the day's top performer, up nearly 9%
The Fear & Greed Index remains in extreme fear territory at 25, and most large-cap altcoins are still 32-44% below where they started the year. We covered a similar setup in our previous installment of this series — how the top 10 altcoins looked on July 30, when the market was fearful but Korean exchanges were moving individual tokens. Today's ADA move also ties into something we covered separately — an analyst's forecast that Cardano could rally over 1,300% by 2028 — the short-term momentum here lines up with that longer-term technical thesis, though they operate on very different timeframes, and one doesn't guarantee the other.
The combination of isolated spikes like Cosmos and ADA with an overall reading of extreme fear is typical for a market that's technically recovering from a specific negative event — the Coldcard breach — but hasn't yet won back broader investor confidence.
