An AI chat assistant plots a business trip from conversation to a plane and a hotel

You can now book a business trip straight from a chat with Claude

American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT) has launched an Egencia AI connector in Anthropic's Claude — by the company's own description, one of the business travel industry's first agentic AI tools. An employee can ask Claude directly, in chat, to check their calendar, suggest a trip itinerary, and complete a policy-compliant flight and hotel booking end to end.

The connector runs on Amex GBT's own agent-to-agent (A2A) architecture: it breaks an employee's request into discrete tasks, hands them off to specialized agents — one for flights, another for hotels — then stitches the results together under corporate agreements and the traveler's profile. Technically, the connector uses Anthropic's Model Context Protocol to plug Claude directly into Amex GBT's agent infrastructure, The Business Travel Magazine reports. The connector reaches Egencia customers in Q3 2026; in parallel, the company has already rolled out an Egencia AI integration in Google Chat and is piloting a similar assistant in Microsoft Teams for Neo customers.

The conversation in our industry is shifting from connecting systems to connecting intelligence

Evan Konwiser, Chief Product and Strategy Officer, Amex GBT
  • In a Forrester survey of 500+ IT decision-makers and 2,000+ business travelers, 90% of decision-makers said they're satisfied with current travel technology
  • But only 3% of companies report genuinely full enterprise workflow integration
  • And just 24% of travelers themselves describe their trip-booking experience as truly seamless

That's the exact gap the agentic approach is meant to close — the distance between leadership-level satisfaction and what employees actually experience — provided the AI assistant handles the booking grind itself rather than just suggesting options.
