One number instead of a dozen tabs: how CryptoPulse's new Market Pulse index actually works
CryptoPulse.media has launched a new section — Market Pulse, its own composite index of crypto market activity and sentiment. Instead of keeping track of several separate indicators at once, Market Pulse rolls them into a single number from 0 to 100 — with a clear classification scale attached.
What the Index Is Made Of
Market Pulse's formula is transparent and made up of three components: 40% weight goes to the classic Fear & Greed Index value, 30% to the Altcoin Season Index, and another 30% to "volume momentum" — the change in global 24-hour trading volume against a rolling 7-day baseline, clamped to a ±20% range and mapped onto a 0-100 scale around a neutral midpoint of 50.
How Often the Data Updates
Unlike sections with live quotes, Market Pulse isn't recalculated on every page load — it's computed once a day, on a schedule, via a background job (Vercel Cron) that pulls Fear & Greed Index data, the Altcoin Season Index, and global trading volume from CoinGecko, then saves the finished snapshot for the day. The page itself simply displays the latest saved snapshot. If even one of the data sources is unavailable on a given day, no snapshot is created for that day — rather than show users a made-up number, the team chose to show an honest gap in the chart instead.
How to Read the Final Score
The scale is split into five zones: 0-24 is "Flatline," 25-44 is "Warming up," 45-55 is "Steady rhythm," 56-74 is "Heating up," and 75-100 is "Peak activity." Every value comes with a clear classification label rather than just a bare number.
How This Differs From a Plain Fear & Greed Index
The key idea behind the section is to make clear that Market Pulse doesn't replace the classic Fear & Greed Index — it complements it: investor sentiment is just one of three components, alongside capital rotation between bitcoin and altcoins (via the Altcoin Season Index) and real, measurable trading activity in the market. That combination helps distinguish a situation where sentiment is shifting alongside genuinely rising activity from one where the market is simply reacting emotionally to news on thin volume.
Why This Matters for Readers
The section replaced the site's old price-widget on the homepage and added a dedicated card to the calculators section — meaning this isn't a one-off experiment but a full part of the site's navigation. The team explicitly states that Market Pulse is a supplementary analytical signal, not a trading signal and not investment advice. Its practical value is being able to gauge the market's overall state at a glance, instead of manually cross-checking three or four separate data sources.
