Humanity Protocol Unlocks $54.8M in Tokens Amid Hack Recovery

Humanity Protocol is unlocking 266.47 million H tokens today, June 25 — about 9.41% of circulating supply, worth roughly $54.8 million. The release stems from a deal the team offered investors back in April: take the full amount immediately with a 70% haircut, or wait out the standard three-year vesting schedule.

Context: a $36 million hack

The unlock lands while the project is still working through recovery from a major exploit earlier this month. On June 8–9, attackers compromised Humanity Protocol's multisig private keys — reportedly via a single infected laptop holding enough keys to clear signing thresholds on both Ethereum (3 of 6) and BNB Smart Chain (3 of 5). Using that access, they upgraded a bridge contract to a malicious implementation and seized ProxyAdmin control, ultimately draining or unauthorizedly minting roughly 447 million H tokens worth about $36 million. The token crashed more than 80%, from $0.71 to $0.072.

The recovery plan

In response, the team rolled out a full migration: the old token contract across Ethereum, BNB Chain and Humanity Mainnet has been sunset, and holders are receiving a newly audited ERC-20 token 1:1, based on balance snapshots taken on June 8 — just before the attack. A separate compensation fund is meant to cover edge cases the automated airdrop can't, such as third-party DeFi pool exposure and tokens bought after the snapshot.

"We know the wait has been hard, and your patience through this has meant everything to us," the Humanity Protocol team said, addressing the pace of the recovery.

Why it matters

H is currently trading around $0.224 on roughly $37.6 million in daily volume — well above its post-crash low, but still far from pre-hack levels. Adding a $54.8 million unlock right now raises the odds of near-term selling pressure at a moment when the project is already working to rebuild investor trust.
