A glowing coin above a support line defended by three abstract whale-tail silhouettes

Ripple mints $10M RLUSD as whales defend XRP's $1 level

Ripple minted another $10 million in RLUSD on the XRP Ledger, a transaction confirmed on-chain via XRP Scan, U.Today reports. The mint is relatively modest: a week earlier, on August 3, Ripple minted $133.3 million in RLUSD in a single day — so today's issuance reads more like a top-up to meet current demand than a major one-off liquidity injection.

At the same time, on-chain analytics show whales accumulated more than 380 million XRP over the past week, concentrating purchases around the $1 psychological mark — a sign that large holders are actively defending that support level while the coin sits in a sluggish summer consolidation. No source draws a direct causal link between the RLUSD mint and the whale buying, but both trends point the same way: big players aren't pulling back from the XRP ecosystem, they're leaning in.

Tether, meanwhile, is playing a far more aggressive game: the company minted $1 billion in USDT on Tron, pushing its reserve token inventory on that network to $91 billion. By Tether's own account, mints of that size serve demand from the mass retail market and crypto trading, whereas Ripple's RLUSD model is far more selective, built around institutional and B2B partners — which explains the order-of-magnitude gap between the two stablecoins' typical mint sizes.

  • Ripple minted $10M RLUSD on the XRP Ledger, confirmed via XRP Scan
  • Whales accumulated over 380M XRP in a week, defending the $1 level
  • Tether minted $1B USDT on Tron, pushing network reserves to $91B

RLUSD's momentum over the past month hasn't been smooth: we previously reported that the stablecoin landed two new partnerships even as transfer volume dropped 25% — against that backdrop, today's mint and the whale activity look like an attempt to get the coin's momentum back.
