Bitcoin near $65K: market fear is rising, but ETF inflows haven't stopped yet

Bitcoin is trading around $64,960 — down 1.4% over the last 24 hours, on $23.7 billion in trading volume and a $1.3 trillion market cap, according to CoinGabbar. The Fear & Greed Index has dropped to 28 (from 31 the day before), pointing to deepening caution across the market.

What's happening around it

  • Total crypto market cap fell 1.3% to $2.3 trillion, on combined trading volume of $58.9 billion.
  • Ethereum is falling harder — down 3% to $1,871.42, on $10.06 billion in volume.
  • Bitcoin's share of the total market cap holds steady at 56.6%.
  • DeFi is bucking the trend — up 9.8% in 24 hours, with sector market cap at $63.4 billion.

ETFs are still holding the line

Despite the spot-market caution, U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs have logged inflows for a seventh straight trading session — nearly $981 million since July 14, their best stretch in 11 weeks, according to 24/7 Wall St. BlackRock's IBIT accounted for $319 million of the week's $499 million in inflows. Still, the pace is clearly slowing — July 22 brought in just $68.99 million, the smallest of the streak, and net ETF flows for all of 2026 remain negative at around $4.76 billion in outflows.

The range holding steady

Price remains stuck in a broad $64,000-$66,800 range, after a roughly 13% bounce off July's lows. Yesterday we covered a similar market snapshot — trading volume had jumped 28% on the back of a sixth straight day of ETF inflows. Today's picture shows that rising investor caution hasn't yet translated into a reversal of institutional demand.
