Abstract illustration of a bitcoin coin eclipsed by a declining chart — cover for Hashdex Bitcoin ETF closure news

First US Bitcoin ETF to be delisted from NYSE after just 2 years

Asset manager Hashdex is shutting down its spot Bitcoin ETF — the first US spot Bitcoin fund to announce a closure, and it's happening just two years after launch.

The reason is simple: the fund was too small to pay for its own existence. Hashdex charges a 0.25% annual fee, and with roughly $14.56 million in assets under management, that brings in only about $26,000 a year. For comparison, the fund earned just $6,453 in fees during its last full quarter.

  • Shares trade on NYSE Arca until August 17, 2026
  • Investors who hold on until the end get paid out in cash around August 28
  • The fund's fee is 0.25% annually on roughly $14.56 million in assets under management

Hashdex's closure comes amid uneven flow dynamics across the broader Bitcoin ETF market: we recently covered how bitcoin broke out toward $64,000 as ETF inflows outweighed bearish news, and just days earlier how it got stuck near $63,000 as ETF money pulled back. That contrast tells the real story: even as larger ETFs from BlackRock and Fidelity keep pulling in capital, smaller, niche products can lack the scale to survive — the Bitcoin ETF market is consolidating around a handful of leaders rather than growing evenly across every issuer.
