Stylized blockchain network illustration with streaming data blocks — cover for World Chain Flashblocks news

World Chain becomes first production L2 to ship streaming Block Access Lists

World Chain, the OP Stack Layer 2 network from the World (formerly Worldcoin) ecosystem, has become one of the first production networks to stream Block Access Lists under EIP-7928 directly through its own Flashblocks architecture. The change shipped in the v2.4.0 release.

Flashblocks is a streaming block construction mechanism: rather than waiting for a full two-second block to assemble, the network splits it into ten 200-millisecond "flashblocks" and broadcasts each as it's ready. The new feature attaches a separate sidecar to each flashblock containing a Block Access List — a record of account state changes — along with a Keccak256 hash for verification and post-state derivation. In effect, nodes now receive structured information about exactly what changed in network state, alongside the transactions themselves, before the full block is even complete.

  • Flashblocks splits a block into 10 pieces of 200ms each instead of waiting for the full 2 seconds
  • The new Block Access List sidecar implements EIP-7928 with Keccak256-hash verification
  • The Engine API now validates payloads concurrently with pending flashblock processing, without blocking the main path

World Chain's technical upgrades come as the broader World ecosystem draws more market attention: we previously covered how Grayscale filed for the first US Worldcoin ETF, after which WLD jumped 8%, and took a detailed look at World co-founder Sam Altman's story as a billionaire who doesn't own a single share of OpenAI. Faster infrastructure-level confirmations are a far less visible change to the average user than an ETF filing, but it's exactly this kind of technical upgrade that determines whether the network can hold up if interest in World Chain and the WLD token keeps growing.

For ordinary users, the effect of this upgrade won't be directly visible — it's infrastructure work meant to cut latency and improve reliability for developers and infrastructure providers building on top of World Chain, not something that triggers an immediate spike in network activity.
