On July 14, Seattle resident Kiana Hall filmed a raccoon calmly wandering near her home — the clip, captioned "Jimothy," racked up roughly 8 million views within a couple of days. By July 16, anonymous developers had already launched a JIMOTHY token on Pump.fun, tied directly to the meme.

On July 18, the token surged roughly 52x in a single day — its market cap jumped to $22 million on about $30 million in 24-hour volume. Pump.fun's trending page and a repost from the platform's own account gave the token access to a far larger pool of traders than a typical unpromoted meme coin gets, BeInCrypto reports. The story later took an unexpected turn when the official White House account mentioned the raccoon on social media — JIMOTHY jumped another 60% on the news, briefly pushing its market cap above $40 million.

  • None of the token's earliest buyers faced any lock-up on their coins — they could sell at any moment
  • The token peaked at $0.0449
  • JIMOTHY now trades around $0.0063 — 86% below its peak, with market cap down to roughly $6 million
  • It has lost another 43.5% over the past week alone

Buyers who got in within the first few hours of launch could, in theory, have locked in enormous gains at the peak of the frenzy — a similar story recently played out with the CASHCAT meme coin, where one trader turned $838 into over $1 million. But for anyone who bought in later, riding the hype and reposts, the picture is the opposite: liquidity in micro-cap meme coins evaporates as fast as it arrives, and most current JIMOTHY holders are sitting deep in the red.
