Abu Dhabi's Mubadala tokenized part of its $430B fund

Mubadala Capital, the investment arm of Abu Dhabi's sovereign wealth fund managing $430 billion in assets, has tokenized part of its Alternative Solutions Fund via UAE-based tokenization platform KAIO. One important clarification to the headline claim: the token isn't Solana-exclusive — it's live on three blockchains at once: Solana, Base (Coinbase's network), and Sui.

What's Confirmed So Far

The onchain version of the fund has already attracted about $75 million in assets, and Coinbase didn't just host the product on its Base network — it also took a stake in the tokenized fund itself. Access is restricted to qualified institutional and accredited investors. KAIO already counts Hamilton Lane, Brevan Howard, and Laser Digital among its clients, with total tokenized funds on its platform reaching $144 million.

This strategy was built on differentiated access — to deal flow, to co-investment, to a global network that most investors cannot reach on their own. Bringing it onchain extends that access to a new class of qualified investors without compromising the institutional discipline that defines how we invest.

As regulated assets become programmable, they can become part of a broader onchain economy that is more transparent, composable and accessible to qualified investors in eligible jurisdictions.

Why It Matters

This is one of the world's largest sovereign investors moving onto the onchain private-markets rail — not a niche crypto project. It's part of a bigger wave: the tokenized real-world-asset market has already topped $32 billion, up 300% year-over-year. Abu Dhabi in particular is methodically building out tokenization infrastructure — just this week we covered how tokenized gold Tether Gold won official commodity status at the ADGM financial center. Mubadala's deal is another step in the same direction, this time backed by sovereign capital at serious scale.

Nothing here should be taken as financial advice — just information to consider.
