Trump Media denies selling bitcoin again — same words as three months ago

Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) is once again facing questions about its bitcoin — and once again giving the same answer as last time. On August 2, wallets linked to the company transferred 2,628 BTC (roughly $165 million) to Crypto.com, according to Lookonchain. The company insists it wasn't a sale.

After the transfer, roughly 4,261 BTC remained in TMTG's tracked wallets. A company spokesperson told The Block the bitcoin was transferred but not sold — using the same wording the company used three months earlier for a similar transfer.

TMTG transferred, but did not sell, some of its BTC holdings as part of its larger trading strategy.

The déjà vu isn't a coincidence: on May 22, the company transferred 2,650 BTC (~$205 million) to the same Crypto.com — and gave CoinDesk an almost word-for-word version of the same comment at the time. Neither in May nor now has the company confirmed or denied whether these moves amounted to a sale, leaving that question to its next 10-Q filing.

By Lookonchain's estimate — which TMTG hasn't confirmed — the company bought 11,542 BTC at an average price of $118,522 back in the summer of 2025, then started selling roughly seven months ago, offloading a total of 7,281 BTC at an average price of just $74,855. Analysts put the company's combined realized and unrealized loss at $555 million. CoinDesk goes further, suggesting the remaining 4,261 BTC may no longer be a free reserve at all, but loan collateral. A similar irony showed up elsewhere this week: while TMTG bleeds hundreds of millions on its own bitcoin, Donald Trump personally made $1.4 billion from meme coins and crypto tokens — the same figure that, as we covered, became the central sticking point in the fight over the Clarity Act.

The same "transferred, not sold" line, repeated twice in three months while the treasury shrinks 63%, doesn't prove anything on its own — but it doesn't answer the question either, for the second time running.

Nothing here should be taken as financial advice — just information to consider.
